8 Essentials for Your Hand Luggage

Packing for travel can sometimes feel like solving a puzzle. How do you bring everything you need and nothing you don’t while strategically placing everything in the right bags for easy access? It’s actually very simple when you start with your hand luggage.

By having all the things you need readily accessible in your backpack or day bag, you won’t have to root around in your main luggage to find important items at the last minute! Here are 8 handy staples that you should always keep in your hand luggage when you are on the move.

1. Reusable Water Bottle

Airplanes, airports and trains are all dry places that can dry you out too. It is essential that you keep a bottle of water on you at all times so you don’t suffer with dehydration during your trip. Be eco-friendly and invest in a good quality reusable water bottle that you can take with you wherever you need to go. Collapsible bottles are also a good option, as they take up minimal space when not storing water.

2. Medications

Remember to pack any medications that you will need safely in your hand luggage! If your main luggage is lost or stolen and you have stored your medications in there, you may quickly run into a problem if you are far from home. Pack your prescription as well, in case airport security requires it.

3. Chargers

Nobody wants their phone or tablet to run out of battery half way through a long journey. Keep your chargers with you if you want access to digital entertainment and your favourite bingo Australia games. It’s a good idea to invest in a travel adapter too, in case your station, airport or method of transportation does not have the right plugs for your chargers.

4. Important Documents

Will you be needing an ID book, passport or any other important documents on your trip? Keep them in your hand luggage so that they are quick and easy to access when you need them. Physical tickets and other irreplaceable documents should also be stored in your carry-on for extra safety.

5. Valuables

Airports, stations and the likes do plenty to prevent theft, but it does still happen. Keep valuables like jewellery, cameras, computers, phones and other expensive items on your person at all times to protect them.

6. Entertainment

If you have a smartphone, tablet or Kindle on you, you are probably set for on-board entertainment. However, you can also pack a book, magazine or small game into your hand luggage just in case.

7. Fresh Clothes and Hygiene Tools

Have a change of underwear, a fresh shirt, and fresh socks in your carry-on for long travel periods. It’s also a good idea to pack your toothbrush, toothpaste, and some biodegradable face wipes for freshening up.

8. Something Warm

The weather can change at any moment while you travel, and if you are travelling far, you may also be experiencing different temperatures and climates altogether. Bring a lightweight jacket, shawl, cardigan or sweatshirt with you in case of chilly weather!
